News is coming that
Google was supposedly working to bring an Android-based system
into cars; however, this news has been confirmed by Internet Giant in
his blog post few days ago. The most popular Internet Giant, Google
has joined forces with General Motors, Hyundai, Audi and Honda to
form a new group aimed at making Android in the car a reality.
The most advanced and
first android-equipped vehicles will arrive in the later of this
year. The OAA (Open Automotive Alliance) wanted to make Android the
most common platform for in-car infotainment, with a focus on
auto-specific interfaces and tapping into the massive developer base
that is already devoted to android applications.
One of the most popular
chipmakers NVIDIA, having a large footprint in the automotive space
has also joined the alliance along with other automakers from the
U.S., Japan, Korea and Germany.
Patrick Brady, a
Director, Android Engineering, said “In
this multi-screen world, switching between our different devices
should be easy and seamless”. He also added
“Common platforms allow for one connected experience across our
phone, tablet and PC, so we get the right information at the right
time, no matter what device we are using. But there’s
still an important device that isn’t yet connected as seamlessly to
the other screens in our lives - the car.”
With
this expansion of the android platform into automotive, industry
partners will easily integrate mobile technology into cars and
provide their drivers a well-known and seamless experience in order
to keep their maximum attention on the road, senior veep of Google’s
Android, Chrome and Apps, Sundar Pichai said while announcing.
When
it comes to talk about the first android equipped automobile, Roewe
350 is the name that comes in everyone’s mind as this car featured
a DVD/GPS system that runs on Android 2.1 at that time the latest
release from Google. The system of this car allowed drivers to gain
access to real-time traffic reports, allowing direct Web access from
the car and more.
Yet,
Android has not completely penetrated automobiles, so teaming up with
these popular players is one of the biggest moves for Google and
Android as it is like to transcend your pocket and becomes a
permanent fixture in your car.
Along
with OAA, it mean that all your music, apps and more will easy get
their place on the dashboard to use with the car’s built-in
controls and display. It is also likely that hands-free controls will
be a standard fixture. It allows drivers to keep their concentration
on the road instead of messing across with buttons on their
smart-phones.
Patrick Brady also wrote
in a blog post “Together with our OAA
partners, we are working to enable new forms of integration with
Android devices, and adapting Android for the car to make driving
safer, easier and more enjoyable for everyone”. He also added in
his conversation “Putting Android in the car will bring drivers
apps and services they already know and love, while enabling
automakers to more easily deliver cutting-edge technology to their
customers. And it will create new opportunities for developers to
extend the variety and depth of the Android app ecosystem in new,
exciting and safe ways.”
Currently,
there are only five car manufacturers that are on the board, Google
says it’s welcoming other companies as well to join the OAA in the
future to help build common platform for the road. So, all the
people, who are android lovers, can wait for the lovely android based
cars.
