Sony Confirms to Manufacture Windows Phone in 2014

When it comes to video games, Microsoft and Sony may be bitter competitors, but both the companies are thinking to be partner by launching a Windows Phone this year. Sony has confirmed that the company still in discussions with Microsoft and might have a strong partnership in smartphones.

Sony’s European mobile chief, Pierre Perron, said, the company doesn’t want to be a “single OS manufacturer," noting it’s not a viable position long term. "[Working with Microsoft] is an interesting proposition for us in the PC environment, and we continue our engagement with them,” while speaking to TechRadar this week. "We are exploring this as part of our discussion in mobile space too. One thing is using the platform [Windows Phone] itself, and another is 'what can we deliver on top of it'?"

With this move, Sony part of the growing list of Windows Phone hardware makers that have reputed companies like Acer, LG, HTC, and Nokia as well. This smart move has been largely clogged out of the Android market. Furthermore, joining with Windows Phone gives a bit more breathing room to Sony devices; particularly they are sleeker than the sort of garish devices that Windows Phone.

On other hand, this move also delivers sweet fruits to Microsoft too with more hardware vendors that allow customer more alternatives. That simply means a greater market share. Right now, Nokia along commands 90% of Windows devices and Microsoft have little to drop by receiving more hardware makers involved.
