Guide - Installation Steps of Android Lollipop

Android Lollipop puts its first step in the market and most of us are looking to install in our android device. If you are one of them, who want to install the latest version of Android OS then here are steps.

Step 1: firstly, you have to download the minimal 2MB installer from XDA that includes the Android ADB and fastboot tools. Now, you have to install download stuff in the Android L image. It is one of the quickest ways to install the tools without downloading the whole Android SDK.

Step 2: In the next step, you have to download particular file for your device, i.e. Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. After that, you need a utility like 7-zip that helps you to extract the files from the .tgz archive. Users have to unzip the files twice as they will find a .tar file inside the .tgz file. Further, extract the file to the same folder as the Minimal ADB and Fastboot that is c:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot. After extract, you will find a list of files according to image given below.

Step 3: Reach to the Settings section and scroll down to About phone at the bottom. After that, you have to scroll down to number and have to tap it for 7 times. The developer options are unhided by this that aren’t display in Android 4.2 and later. Enable USB debugging in the Developer options menu.

Step 4: Now, Download the Google USB driver and extract the zip file.

Step 5: In this step, you have to connect Nexus via USB and powered on and now, you have to go to the Control Panel and click Devices and Printers. Now, you will see your device in the list. You will see ‘MTP’ under Multimedia devices, now, Right-click on it and choose properties.

Further, click on the Hardware tab and choose the Nexus 5 in the list, and click Properties. It’s time to update the driver that points Windows to the folder, where you have extracted the Google USB driver. Once it’s done, it should report the device as Android Composite ADB interface. Moreover, you should also get a prompt on your device’s screen by asking “Allow USB debugging?” and ‘Always’ allow from this computer and tap OK.

Step 6: After that, you have to power off your device and leave connected to your computer’s USB port. Now, you have to start it by using perfect key combination to put it in “fastboot” mode.

If you have the Nexus 5, then you have to hold down the volume up, volume down and power buttons simultaneously and Press power and volume down on the Nexus 7. You will see screen like given below. Otherwise, it would be great to leave your device on and type adb reboot-bootloader to restart in fastboot mode.

Step 7: Type ‘fastboot oem unlock’ at the command prompt without the quotes if the LOCK STATE says locked, and then press Enter. You will see the screen just like image given below. Now, you have to use the volume rocker to change from no to yes and to select the option, press the power button. This thing will delete your device so ensure to back up first.

Step 8: In this step, you have to install the Android L firmware with the bootloader unlocked. For that, you have to simply type flash-all and procedure will start. Alternating, you will also see downloading, writing, and erasing on your device’s screen

Step 9: lastly, you have to lock the bootloader again for security and start device in fastboot mode by referring Step 6 and then, type fastboot oem lock. If you want to revert to the previous version, then download the correct version of Android KitKat.

Step 10: After that, you have to extract it as in Step 2 given above. Now, you have to delete the Android L files from the c:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder before copying the extracted files. Such files you have to remove.
