Bluebird BM-180, a New Rugged Handset Run on both Android and Windows

A few weeks ago rumored about Android and Microsoft's Windows Phone OS could coexist on a single device or form factor spread in the market. This news has been confirmed by a Korean company, Bluebird that a new device, Bluebird BM-180 can run Android 4.2 or a version of Windows.

A new five-inch device named BM180 is announced by Bluebird on January 17. Interestingly, the press release that announces the device doesn't mention Android and only focus on Windows Embedded 8 Handheld that is based on the Windows Phone 8 core. The BM180 is the "world ('s) first & biggest screen smart terminal", according to Bluebird's brochure. Either it can be run on Android 4.2 or the preview version of Windows Embedded 8 Handheld in "one form factor."

According to some reports, it is claimed that Microsoft has held chit-chat with hardware makers regarding the chances of placing Windows Phone and Android both on a single device. It was also heard that makers are going to create single form-factor phones that could easily provisioned to run either Android or the Windows Phone OS by customers and/or carriers. On other side, Microsoft officials are not ready to share their views on those reports.

Bluebird is a handful of OEMs that announced joining Microsoft's Windows Embedded 8 Handheld program in the first month of 2013. Honeywell, Ingenico, Intermec and Motorola Solutions are the four partners. Additionally, in same month Bluebird officials said they wanted unexpected Embedded 8 Handheld device "to be the first on the market."

Built on the Windows Phone 8 core, Windows Embedded 8 Handheld operating system allows developers to write applications by using the Windows Phone 8 SDK. Bluebird BM-180 also supports business and productivity apps such as Office 365, Microsoft Lync, and Dynamics for Retail as it is supportable with Windows Phone 8.

According to the Bluebird's press release, it is noted that the new ruggedized handhelds target enterprise customers and major" U.S. retailers. Now, question arises what makes this device to be single form factor running an option of Android or a Windows Phone OS? Let’s wait and watch what happens?
