70% Sales for Android in Q4, Samsung Is Now ‘In Tensed’

According to figures out today from Kantar Worldpanel, a market research subsidiary of WPP, the leader of mobile market, Android continues its popularity with its share of smartphone sales that climbs in every major market in Q4 2013. Now, it becomes more popular across 12 key markets versus by 69.5% of all sales comparing 23.7% for number-two Apple. However, the story is shifting when it comes to seeking at what the engine is behind that growth. Now, the handset maker, Samsung has led the charge for Google’s OS, is “now coming under real pressure in most regions” as it faces tougher competition from local players in the market like China.

The popular Chinese handset makers, Huawei is also gaining popularity among the users. No doubt, it is Android, but different from locally focused packaging. Although we are also seen declination in Apple as it loses sale of the 12 big markets that tracked by Kantar. Additionally, its latest device iPhone 5 models are continuing attract to the users and some key markets. Looking in the U.S, 6% of sales are continuously lost by Apple as compare to year ago, however, it just under 44% of smartphone purchases in the holiday period and 51% of Android device.

We have also seen increase in sales of Apple in Japan, where Apple is one of the biggest players with about 69% of all smartphone sales. Increase in sales is its “unarguable success” that has to do with NTT Docomo, one of the biggest mobile carriers. According to Kantar, 58.1% of all smartphone sales at Docomo are accounted, which is an excellent boost to about 92% of sales at Softbank and 64% at KDDI. Kantar also said that the competition on Samsung results into 40.3% of sales across the big five markets in Europe, i.e. France, Italy, UK, Germany, and Spain that is down by 2.2%. Talking about the China market, Samsung accounted for only 23.7% of sales.

Importantly, Samsung seems to be one of the largest mobile phone markers in Chine over the year and globally, it accounted for 32.2% of sales across all 12 markets in the last 12 weeks of 2013 where Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform stays at 3rd position with 4.4% of all smartphone sales globally. Last week, Nokia announced that approximate 8.2 million Lumia devices, it sold that built on the Windows Phone OS. It seems to be declination on the previous quarter, especially in holiday period. Although Samsung has tougher time, it goes strong in the UK, where it sold about 31% of smartphone devices in December. Click here for Best Apps of 2013...

Google Drive integration Simplifies New API with Android Applications

Good news for developers!! Now, Google makes easier for developers to integrate their application in its storage service Drive through the latest API. Having the new API, it becomes more possible for experts to enjoy better performance with marvelous features than android drive integration in the past, said by Google developer advocate Magnus Hyttsten in his blog.

Java-based Drive Android API, the native version is still under development. However, developers can test a previous version that has in Play Services 4.1. With this API, developers can easily use storage on the device, if it is not connected to the network. According to Hyttsten, the main thing is that one shouldn’t have to worry about failed API calls when his/her device is offline or experiencing network connectivity problems.

If any problem occurs at that time, data stored locally and after that, it will be transferred to Drive by Android’s sync scheduler at the time of connectivity is reestablished. In this API, one can find specialized functionality for interacting with files that stored on Drive and of course, Android user interfaces components. The Drive Android API is supportable with smartphones and tablets that runs on Android 2.3 and later versions of the OS.

Hyttsten also said that API’s addition will have some effect on the total application size. Additionally, applications that compiled by using the preview version will persist working on device that using future versions of Play services. But, some changes of the UI will be expected in future releases that simply means developers have to rewrite their apps to take of that.

We all know that online storages are a packed field and Google is not only company that wants to make their service more useful by opening third party app integration. For instance, you will see a number of APIs are offered by Dropbox for Android app developers and other platform as well. According to Dropbox’s website, Dropbox might add functionality of saving files from third party Android or iOS apps soon.

Now Google Developers can easily integrate their application in Google Drive with latest API. This latest API makes possible for developers to enjoy a collection of unexpected features and better performance as well. So enjoy this feature, by hiring Google developers from Android Development Experts

Google Announce its Partnership with Automakers to Bring Android into Cars

News is coming that Google was supposedly working to bring an Android-based system into cars; however, this news has been confirmed by Internet Giant in his blog post few days ago. The most popular Internet Giant, Google has joined forces with General Motors, Hyundai, Audi and Honda to form a new group aimed at making Android in the car a reality.

The most advanced and first android-equipped vehicles will arrive in the later of this year. The OAA (Open Automotive Alliance) wanted to make Android the most common platform for in-car infotainment, with a focus on auto-specific interfaces and tapping into the massive developer base that is already devoted to android applications.

One of the most popular chipmakers NVIDIA, having a large footprint in the automotive space has also joined the alliance along with other automakers from the U.S., Japan, Korea and Germany.

Patrick Brady, a Director, Android Engineering, said “In this multi-screen world, switching between our different devices should be easy and seamless”. He also added “Common platforms allow for one connected experience across our phone, tablet and PC, so we get the right information at the right time, no matter what device we are using. But there’s still an important device that isn’t yet connected as seamlessly to the other screens in our lives - the car.”

With this expansion of the android platform into automotive, industry partners will easily integrate mobile technology into cars and provide their drivers a well-known and seamless experience in order to keep their maximum attention on the road, senior veep of Google’s Android, Chrome and Apps, Sundar Pichai said while announcing.

When it comes to talk about the first android equipped automobile, Roewe 350 is the name that comes in everyone’s mind as this car featured a DVD/GPS system that runs on Android 2.1 at that time the latest release from Google. The system of this car allowed drivers to gain access to real-time traffic reports, allowing direct Web access from the car and more.

Yet, Android has not completely penetrated automobiles, so teaming up with these popular players is one of the biggest moves for Google and Android as it is like to transcend your pocket and becomes a permanent fixture in your car.

Along with OAA, it mean that all your music, apps and more will easy get their place on the dashboard to use with the car’s built-in controls and display. It is also likely that hands-free controls will be a standard fixture. It allows drivers to keep their concentration on the road instead of messing across with buttons on their smart-phones.

Patrick Brady also wrote in a blog post “Together with our OAA partners, we are working to enable new forms of integration with Android devices, and adapting Android for the car to make driving safer, easier and more enjoyable for everyone”. He also added in his conversation “Putting Android in the car will bring drivers apps and services they already know and love, while enabling automakers to more easily deliver cutting-edge technology to their customers. And it will create new opportunities for developers to extend the variety and depth of the Android app ecosystem in new, exciting and safe ways.”

Currently, there are only five car manufacturers that are on the board, Google says it’s welcoming other companies as well to join the OAA in the future to help build common platform for the road. So, all the people, who are android lovers, can wait for the lovely android based cars.

Are Android Desktops Replacing Windows PC Really?

There is nothing new in Android as a PC operating system as it is an extremely old idea. Recently, Samsung has declared a dual-boot Windows 8.x/Android convertible tablet in June 2013. News are also coming that Intel and its partners are going to announce “PC Plus” devices that will run on Android applications on top of Windows 8.1 at CES.

But, Lenovo as well as HP has something very new and innovative for its customers as they are going to replace Windows PC entirely with Android desktop. HP also declared a new line of Android 4.3 powered enterprise PCs at CES, once a Microsoft support. The entire line of Android 4.3 powered enterprise PCs are coming in a plethora of formats.

  • HP 205 AiO: HP 205 All-in-one is another announced PC that runs on AMD processors and starts at $449. It is come to know that the display is 18.5 inches.

  • ProOne 400 AiO: When it comes to ProOne 400 AiO, it is all-in-one PC that has 19.5-inch display, which starts at $749. It is expected that the device will be obtainable from Feb 3 and it is tailored for video as well as audio conferencing. Running on the latest Intel Core processors, it is feature-rich PC. However, a 21.5-inch version will be obtainable from 31st March for $799.

  • HP Pro x2 410, which is a commercial notebook with a separable screen so that users can use it as laptop or tablet as well. This all new notebook obtainable for $899. The screen of this notebook is 11.6 inches and there is a full-size keyboard also.

  • Another great option is HP 200 MicroTower that uses Intel Pentium or Celeron Processors and it comes with beautiful design that has easy to port access. These are obtainable starting from $349.
We cannot say that it is just a single line of PC, but it is complete collection of business PCs. HP is in dead earnest as the company is looking at Android as a mainstream desktop operating system. Recently, HP also proposes that workers can also make use of Citrix Receiver for Windows application support so that they can deal with the Windows legacy software problem.

However, receiver is the remote desktop program that widely used to serve Linux, Windows and Unix applications for desktop operating systems. While Lenovo is one such company that is taking different slope. Being one of the most popular companies, Lenovo offering Lenovo N308, which is an AiO desktop for home users.

This new desktop comes powered by a Nivdia Tegra Quad processor. It is using Android 4.2 and has a 500 GB of storage, keyboard, an integrated battery with 3 hours of life, a Webcam, mouse and more. The best part of this desktop is that it has a 19.5-inch display. Lots of people are thinking that that the HP and Lenovo are betting that users will feel more secure with conventional desktop operating system model as compare to Linux and cloud-based Chrome OS.

Intel’s Gigantic Android Goals for 2014

For the year 2014, Intel has very big and gigantic Android ambitions. Being one of the most popular chipmakers, Intel is mainly focusing on the year ahead and it has plans to introduce 64-bit processing power and many more tablets. The company knows that Android is ticket to the finale as it can help company to gain biggest market share of the mobile market.

There are lots of people, who say that 64-bit CPUs are still mostly attention-grabber in the market. No doubt that Apple also managed to grab the attention when it declared that the iPhone 5S will be the world’s first 64-bit device that powered by the Apple A7. According to the company, one of the major ways to create a score is to opt for 64-bit, which is a feature its processors that supports on Windows.
At the chipmaker’s investor meeting in November, a general manager of the PC Client Group at Intel, Kirk Skaugen said “We're going to scale Android to 64-bit. We're going to allow it to scale from Atom [processors] all the way to the high-end of the Core processor family”.

However, it is still not clear that when Intel plans to make this happen in the reality, but we can say that there is some kind of race to get there. When Apple shocked the mobile world in the month of September with its excellent quality 64-bit A7 processor, various Android suppliers were nippy to speak up.

Recently, Samsung has also talked about a two-step process for 64-bit and Qualcomm said that a Snapdragon processor with 64-bit support will surely hit the market in 2014. When it comes to talk about the Intel’s other path to bigger Android market share, it is getting its silicon into low-cost devices. The company is looking to make a record on saying that $100 devices are great target.

Recently, Digitimes also posted a complete list of Intel Android Tablet specifications that comprises “Bay Trail" Atom processor-based models ranging from $99 to $129 (7-inch), from $149 to $199 (7- and 8-inch), and all the way up to 10-inch models priced at $249 and above.

Intel’s another part of the plan is to get Android running on devices, which looks similarly with PCs. Kirk Skaugen also said "The strategy is very simple: we're going to support what the market desires”. 2014 Forecast Reports for Google

We all know that 2013 was the very successful year for Google as it introduced many new products, gained huge profit and increasing stock market price. But 2014 has been arrived, so what Google is going to provide in 2014?

On the web, there are lots of professionals and experts, who are predicting different things for what to expect from Google in the year 2014. Let’s have a look on some different predictions and see what people are expecting from Google in this New Year. Well, remember that these are only predictions that are predicted by some experts and professionals:

Nexus TV:
As per the Tech news publication “The Information”, Google will disclose a Nexus TV in 2014. This information has been quoted by a nameless Google employee and it also comes to know that the TV might be running on Android. News are also coming that the all new Nexus TV will stream video content from Netflix, YouTube, Hulu and more and allow playing videos games. However, it will not support with live broadcast like the Xbox One’s media functionality, but it is expected that it will be "aggressively priced".

Google’s Andy Rubin reportedly gave private shows of the prototype at CES 2013, showing off its Android OS and Hangouts functionality as core features. However, the box had a video camera and motion sensor and rumoured to launch at Google I/O in 2013, but Google decided to show the Chromecast instead.

Android TV:
According to Gigaom report in October, Google will soon finish using the Google TV label and looking all the new devices to be rebranded as Android TV. Google TV manufacturers like Sony and LG have stopped using Google TV branding since mid-2013 and it hinting that the announcement may be coming soon.

Still, there is no official announcement from Google as the company has struggled getting the Google TV platform off the ground, but it may come in 2014. Moving to Android TV may allow manufacturers to add custom software on the top on Android-based TV software. Mainly, there are two logical places to declare Android TV: CES 2014 in January or Google I/O in May.

For making Google TV announcement at the tradeshow in Las Vegas, Google is very notorious, so we can also see Android TV there. It may be a great sign of an Android TV announcement for later in year, if Google TV is not discussed during the show.

Chromebook:
During 2013, The Chromebook saw its first high-end model with Google Pixel, but 2014 will be a year of diming for the budget crowd. Remember that Chrome OS is built for lightweight machines and it enables manufacturers to keep down the price and still bring enough processing power for users to get work done.

Asus, a Taiwanese multinational computer hardware and electronics company, has already confirmed that it will get in on the Chromebook market. Many experts are thinking that Samsung, Asus, Acer, HP and LG will continue targeting schools and customers to provide them budgeted products. To gain maximum market share, The Chromebook platform is struggling hard.

As per the IDC numbers, the Chromebook market sat at 1% of all shipped PCs and tablets in Q3 2013. With approximately 652000 Chromebooks shipped, Samsung led the way and some other vendors shown small volume.

Chromecast:
We all know that Chromecast was released in the year 2013, but the year of it to shine is 2014. During this New Year, the low-cost media streaming dongle will be launched internationally rather than lightly in the US and UK. The vice-president of Google’s product Mario Queiroz told Gigaom “We are going to be launching in a number of international markets." He added that people would be “pleasantly surprised” by the scope of this international expansion.”

Moreover, the Chromecast team will be opening up its SDK to make hundreds of applications that will be compatible with Chromecast. This thing started in the year 2013 with the Netflix application that allow users push content from their mobile phone to TV at the press of a button. However, Google is also going to partnering with consumer electronics companies in order to bring cast functionality to other devices in 2014.

Next-generation Google Glass:
Google Glass has been obtainable for members of the "Explorer" program, but now Google is planning to expand its wearables program in the New Year with a Glass product that mainly aim at the masses and comes at reasonable price between $200-$600.

Google’s Chairman Eric Schmidt said "Well, the developers are beginning now. It would be fair to say that there will be thousands of these in use by developers over the next months and based on their feedback we'll make some product changes and it's probably a year-ish away."

Google is giving many new changes to Google Glass, comprising the declaration of instruction lenses, an earbud accessory, a second version of Google Glass with small changes that Explorers can get for free and several software enhancements.

So, above mentioned are some of the major predictions by experts and professional for what to expect from Google in this New Year. To know what Google has planned for 2014, we all need to wait for the events.
