Last
week, Motorola declared about its Moto 360 smart-watch in India, and
the all new smart-watch is set to launch in the market this month.
Yesterday, a new teardown video has been published showing outdated
chips and small battery that keep the company and its product in a
little bit of a controversy.
In
this teardown video, one can see that the company has misused the
battery capacity of the device and also used some old and tricky
chipsets inside. At time of grisly autopsy, iFixit showed the Moto
360 that may have had a small battery as compare to the Motorola
advertised on the smartwatch’s packaging - a
300mAh battery vs 320mAh as printed on the box.
Along
with it, the teardown also proved that the smart-watch comes with
ancient chips – for instance, TI’s OMAP3630 processor that was
seen in the video. However, it also claimed by Engadget that it was
last seen five years ago on Motorola’s Droid 2 smart-phones.
Soon,
the teardown video of IFixit’s goes viral and Motorola has no other
choice excepting to respond to this. The company responded on this
teardown video:
“The typical battery capacity for Moto 360 is 320 mAh and the minimum is 300 mAh. In the mobile industry, sometimes both the minimum and typical capacity is listed on the battery, with the typical capacity quoted as the official battery size. Both figures are included on the batteries of our Moto X, Moto E and Moto G devices.
In the case of smaller devices, we aren’t always able to list both figures. For Moto 360 we only had room for one figure and choose to list the minimal capacity of the battery. We see how this can be confusing and we will look into ways to add the typical capacity as well in the future.”
In
the teardown version of Moto 360, the capacity of the battery is
mentioned as it is similar to Samsung’s Gear Live that packs a
300mAh battery. When it comes to talk about the LG G watch, it is
powered by a 400mAh battery and the G watch R packs a 410mAh battery.
