Affordable Cardboard VR Headset by Google for Developers

A makeshift VR headset for the MyTouch 3G was constructed by a fella from Recombu by using only tape and scissors in 2009. It was Rob Jackson, who came up with an idea of changing the way of using Android devices. Sundar Pichai, an Android leader, announced that the LG G Watch, Samsung Gear Live, and Motorola Moto 360 will get a cardboard box, which is capable of transforming an Android device into a full-fledged VR headset.

A phone slips into the provided slot after folding the box together and sort of virtual reality environment is created by the eye holes when using the companion app. Check out below given video for more information.

Cardboard was developed as one of the part of Google’s own “20 Percent” project through which employees can spent their 20% of time on the other project. These days, VR headsets of Google are in high demand due to its low-cost price.

Developers are also encouraged by Google as it comes with their own VR apps that use their experimental SDK and posting their experience online with #cardboard hashtag. One can also join up with the Google+ community to know updates. For more information, visit https://developers.google.com/cardboard/
