Android L Dev Preview – 9 Things to Love and Hate by Users

Google starts running to new ground by releasing a Developer Preview of the next version of Android L. it provides a chance for developers to develop apps and services for this forthcoming platform. However, we have found some pros and cons in this release that we are going to mention in this post.

Search in Settings
All thanks to Google that adds Search in Settings and make it way to the core Android experience. One can’t find a many settings in a vanilla Android on the Nexus to wade through; however, it is still a lifesaver, if you don’t have an idea about particular seldom tweaked option.

No Battery Percentage
It is a bit difficult to determine how much battery is left. Having percentage displayed in battery consider a powerful features that provides idea to user about remaining battery in %. Google doesn’t have such type of default functionality, not even a notification panel.

Material Design
Material Design is extremely eye-catchy and much more consistent. Only we have found one problem that it doesn’t applied consistently to Android's core. Later this year, we expect things to be more seamless.

No "Clear All" button
Google doesn’t have a proper button for throwing out all notifications or clear the recent apps list. Users were thinking that why such type of features does not exist in Google, possibly it is a bit more debatable on the Recent View.

ART
ART is the latest Android Runtime that helps to start apps faster and run smoother. However, it also has some drawbacks as developers have to work double to ensure that their wares will work once Android L is released. Otherwise, it is painless transition with crashes or incompatible apps.

Battery Life
The battery life lasts as longer as a day on the same amount of use when we engaging with mobile data, browsing, and multimedia in KitKat. There is good news that Google has been working to enhance battery life in upcoming release Android L.

Recents redesign
We like current design, however, application’s thumbnails fill majority of screen. So, it is advisable to herd to one side in a line, but as far as practical information compactness goes, nothing has changed. One can also see three to four applications and can only swipe away those. It would be great to compressed tickler visualization in better ways.

Do Not Disturb
Now users can have in-built Do Not Disturb option in Android that adds a bit of smartness to the notifications. Though it is basic, it is enough for users to stay away from unwanted things. So, you don’t want to require to jealous of custom ROMs or similar OEM features.

Inconsistent Material Design
We didn’t find Android L Preview meant for end users anyway, so it is not surprising that even core sections of the Android UI don't adhere to it yet. It shouldn’t be excuse for app developers to make sure that their application will be materialized when time comes.
