Native Execution Of iOS Apps and Services with Project Cider on Android

Hey, good news for guys who want to access iOS apps and games on Android companions. There are some workaround techniques available that allow doing the unthinkable, however, some of them needs to require a virtual machine and the procedure is cumbersome. With Project Cider, one can enable native execution of iOS apps on Android.
This “operating system compatibility architecture” is created by Researchers from the Columbia University. This architecture doesn’t use a virtual machine, but still allows performing iOS apps on Android. The compile-time code adaptation method is used by Cider to do its mojo. It doesn’t create any modifications to the source code of the iOS apps while just adapts them to run on Google’s Platform.

Furthermore, some diplomatic functions allow connecting with the host libraries of your Android device. Fascinatingly, the native Android libraries for 3D hardware acceleration are also fully supported. A brief demonstration video is released by the developers behind Cider in which iOS and Android apps are showed by running side-by-side on a Nexus 7 tablet, which is running KitKat.

As Cider doesn’t support 2D hardware rendering, so the overall UI performance of most of the iOS apps become low. A 3D benchmark test is also treated that shows that “Cider's diplomats” are fully capable of making iOS apps use the GPU hardware of the tablet. One can see surprisingly 3D performance and frame rate.

Users can also see Yelp, iTunes, iBooks, and Apple Stocks in the Cider demonstration video that runs on the Nexus 7. Apart from apps, various iOS frameworks and services are also supported by Cider. But, we have seen that project Cider has some obvious legal and technical complications. It is now solved. For sure, this project reminds us about the flexibility and the multi-functionality of Android.
