Google, the leading
search engine, updated Google Play Services to version 4.4 that
includes Games Services, Street View imagery, running and walking
detectors, Mobile Ads, and Wallet. This latest version has started
rolling out and it is available in your region. So, you will be to
download it directly from Google Play. Developers can download the
SDK by using the Android SDK manager and started with the new APIs,
once it becomes available to download the SDK.
One of the biggest
additions, you can see in this update is Google Maps Android API:
Street View support. Now, developers can easily embed Street View
imagery into an activity and can explore the world via panoramic
360-degree views. Moreover, the tilt and bearing of the Street View
camera can be also managed programmatically and camera’s movement
can be animated over a given duration.
One can also see the
expanded Indoor Maps feature of the API that allows you to turn the
default floor picker off, detect when a new building comes into
focus, and find the currently-active building and floor. New
activity detectors: running and walking has been gained by the
Location API. Furthermore, users can also able to detect, whether
device is in a vehicle, on a bicycle, on foot, still, or tilting.
Next one is Games
Services that includes Game Gifts that allows you to request wishes
and gifts. The default requests sending UI has been expanded as there
are no external API changes this time to permit users to choose
multiple Game Gifts recipients. The Mobile Ads section is also added
APIs for publishers to show in-app promo ads that allows users to buy
advertised items directly. Lastly, the Instant Buy API has been
reworked by Google that allows easy integration Google Wallet Instant
Buy into an app. None of these are main additions, but can add some
spice to this latest release.
