Project Ara – Google Looking to Modernize Smart-phone Industry

Whenever I am hearing the name of project Ara, I get Goosebumps because it is one of the most interesting projects in the mobile industry. The all new and exclusive Project Ara is the codename for a new program by Google, which mainly aims to develop a free, open hardware platform for developing highly advanced modular smart-phones.

However, this project is all set to develop a smart-phone, which basically enables consumers to develop their own custom smart-phones that are alike what we saw in the PC industry with desktop towers.

Moreover, Project Ara also allows you to swap modules (batteries, radios, cameras, screens and more) across the exoskeletons. They are calling it an ecosystem as third parties are meant to be able to supply their own modules for an open spec.

A good overview in Wired discusses the possibilities this open-up like night vision, biometrics, 3D imaging) but most of the people are looking forward in the possibilities for surveillance-resistant open source hardware and hot-swapping modules, which lock phones. Additionally, people also like the idea of being able to click-out a broken screen and click in a fresh one.

The designers guessed for a modular phone to function that each module will need to have a great and direct access to a central piece of electronics without bothering about any neighboring modules imposing on its space or function. Amit says, “We want an arbitrator–some element that is objective and is neutral, that nobody can manipulate, that has a very clear spec that everyone can adhere to.” The endoskeleton is that authority.

The Massachusetts firm created with NK Labs is responsible for a complete lot of Ara’s electrical and mechanical engineering as it is the bus to which all modules attach. Each and every module has its own plot on the endo making it a lot simpler so that every module makers do not have to bother about building on top of other modules.

Furthermore, the project era is also hoping to valve into a handful of next-gen technologies in order to make it work wonderfully. For attaching modules, a prototype uses electro permanent magnets, and when it comes to emerging standard, it called as UniPro for allowing people to talk to the endo. Till today, the idea of parceling was very important to the vision.

The only way to develop an ecosystem in which anyone could bring a module to market was developing such design where modules are both electronically and physically independent from their neighbors.

Amit says, “We had to create a system that allows everyone to understand the boundaries of where they can operate or not”. “That was somewhat restrictive. But the notion was that this minimal restriction would allow this economy of third parties to thrive.”

Recently, Google comes with updated apps for Android and iOS with collection of remarkable features like Uber integration directly in its wide range of option for travel direction. Users can find Uber option when they are looking for transit or walking directions. However, they should have Uber app installed on their device. In some cities, this application offers estimated time for trips through using the car hire service.

Furthermore, one can instantly launch Uber with a single tap. One of the most interesting part of update is it has one tech-focused transportation startup over all others. As Uber is a Google Ventures portfolio company, so it is not confirmed that it is best deal or not as Google always keeps its venture arm operates separately from the other organization. Update is not limited to this, now you can see upcoming lane information through Maps on mobile when using turn-by-turn, which is handy to deal with difficult roads. Such thing appears under the green bar at the top of the interface and can tell you next turn information and route name.

For later user, offline maps are also available that connected with your Google profile. Apart from, filters option is also available for narrowing search results by opening hours, price, ratings and more to make Google Maps more of a Yelp competitor. Having this functionality, one should have to switch another application to find something else. Another remarkable option added by Google is transit directions that tell departing or arrival time when searching for public transport options. With Google Maps, you can recall saved places when you are signed in and of course, indoor and special tourist spot Street View imagery for particular locations are also available.

Having lots of amazing features, it becomes enjoyable to access Google Maps with Uber. But now, one can only have to see whether or not company works with any Uber competitors like Lyft and Hailo or this continue as restricted issue.

Google to Ditch Nexus Line Soon in Favor of introducing Premium Android Silver Handsets

Google might be planning to ditch Nexus Line soon in favor of introducing premium Android silver handsets that will give a premium Android experience to its users. According to the reports, Google is planning to recover the control of Android from Samsung by launching Android silver range devices.

However, the company instead of developing low-price smart-phones with better specs and clean version of Android, it is working on Android silver that will consist of range-topping smart-phones similar to the Google Play Edition hardware.

As per the report from TheInformation.com, Google has planned to offer wonderful Android experience with its Silver line of products, starting with the US. The report also claims, “The expensive effort involves dumping the Nexus phone brand in favour of a new programme called Silver, under which manufacturers and wireless carriers will be paid to produce and sell high-end devices that closely adhere to Google specifications, according to four people briefed on the project”.

Amir Efrati at the information reports, “Google will help underwrite the Silver phones, though the payments to partners wouldn't be direct," say Efrati. "The company has recently discussed pouring hundreds of millions of dollars-possibly as much as $1 billion-into promoting Silver devices through ad campaigns and special kiosks in wireless stores staffed by Google-trained employees."

With this new program, the company is trying to take a hold over the Android system. From the current Google devices, the carriers as well as handset manufacturers have had a control on software customization.

Now, with the new program, the company is trying to limit these carriers and manufacturers so that it can transfer their data from current handset to their new ones. Ensuring to prompt and robust software updates and introducing a real standard and constancy to the users, the company is looking forward to clean up the third-party blotware.

As per the reports, Google’s Android silver products will get prompt software updates and also get high-end features such as water resistance, advanced voice recognition. These are such features that will help you out position it better against other high-end devices such as Samsung Galaxy smart-phones line, iPhones and.

It also comes to know that these rumored devices will be similar with Google Play Edition devices that comprise some top devices by manufacturers such as Samsung, LG and HTC without any software customizations. Not like Google Play Edition and Nexus products, Google’s Android silver devices will be promoted by search engine giants. As per the report from four leading sites, Google will spend up to $1 billion on marketing this upcoming range.

Both Nexus as well as Google Play Edition devices are obtainable in the US through the company’s online store, and Google Play Edition devices are not sold outside the US. At telecom carriers’ stores, Google will supposedly set up kiosks in order to promote Android Silver devices with trained and skilled employees, who can easily show-up the features to prospective buyers.

Moreover, the company has already contacted LG and Motorola so that it product the first Android silver device. When it comes to other potential partners in this program, some Chinese companies are looking forward to enter the high-end smartphone market of the US.

Yet, it is not clear that when will company launch these devices in the market as there is no official confirmation from Google.
